Calahute is a farm Barrio has found itself coming back to for many years now. It's owned by the Anzueto family who purchased the farm in the 1950s. Today, it is managed by third-generation coffee producer Alfonso Anzueto. The 220 hectare farm sits 1300 meters above sea level on the side of El Tapón Mountain in the province of Huehuetenango. Huehue is a famous coffee growing region, it offers coffee of great complexity and sweetness.
Since taking over the farm Alfonso has invested more resources and efforts into lot separation, experimentation, processing and quality control. And Barrio has taken notice, this is our 5th year returning to this coffee and we're stoked to have it. To put it simply, this is a perfect Barrio coffee!
This lot is made up of Bourbon and Caturra Varietals. It lends itself beautifully to a milky espresso, with plenty of milk chocolate sweetness and a biscuit texture. As a black coffee it has clean apple and vanilla flavour and a mild acidity.
